Important Information for Internet Explorer Users

Update 01/27/2007:

The upgrade to version 6.2 of the CruzPay system should fix all occurances of the printing issue described below. If you continue to experience problems opening your timesheet in PDF format from the website, please contact us immediately at etas_office@ucsc.edu

There is a known Microsoft bug in all current versions of Internet Explorer which prevents applications running in IE under an secure environment (https) from viewing/executing an external data file such as a PDF or spreadsheet directly from the browser.   There is a patch available from Microsoft to fix this defect; however, even with the patch, the user will still have to save and print their PDF timesheet in 2 separate steps.

This document describes the process for applying the patch for Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 1, and Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 2.

Important: The best alternative is to use Mozilla Firefox with CruzPay. If this is not possible, the patch is available for Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or SP2, with a current set of installed Security Updates, particularly MS04-004 (832894).

To determine what version of Internet Explorer you have:

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Go to Help, About Internet Explorer.
  • Look for Version.   If the Version is 6.0 then proceed to the next step.   If it says Version: 5.0 or Version: 5.5 (or anything other than 6.0) then you will need to upgrade IE before continuing. You can download Internet Explorer here.
  • Look for Update Version:
    • If it says Update Version is 0, then you need to update your version of Internet Explorer to Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2, depending on your operating system.
    • If it says Update Version: SP1 or SP2, then follow the directions below for Service Pack.

Fix for Internet Explorer with Service Pack (You must have Administrator privileges to run this fix):

  • Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
  • Download the patch by right clicking and selecting 'Save Target as' or 'Save Link as' here.
  • Run the file called IE60SP2_SSLcache_Fix.reg.
  • Click on the Yes button when it says “Are you sure you want to add the information in IE60SP2_SSLcache_Fix.reg to the registry?”
  • You should receive a message box that says “Information in IE60SP2_SSLcache_Fix.reg has been successfully entered into the registry.”   Click on the OK button.  If you receive a different message box then there was a problem and you should contact your desktop support.

To print your report after successfully installing the patch:

  • Request the report, through Reports-> General Reports -> Attendance Leave Use Record.
  • Follow the prompts to download the output to your local PC using “Save as…”.  If you choose “Run” instead of the “Save as…”, you will receive an error message relating to a file not being found, and will not be able to view the report.
  • Open the saved PDF file, and print the report.
